WHO WE ARE

Co-founded in 2006 by pediatric cardiologist Dr. Joaquim Miró and pediatric heart surgeon Dr. Nancy Poirier, Sainte Justine at the Heart of the World is a non-profit organization aimed at saving children's hearts around the world, all while transferring knowledge and providing training to local medical teams.

Our mission to heal the hearts of children
around the world and to enable local medical teams to become more autonomous.

Since 2006, the Sainte-Justine at the Heart of the World foundation organizes humanitarian missions in pediatric cardiology in developing countries.
Every year, teams of volunteers, doctors and paramedical specialists treat children with heart deficiencies free of charge. In addition to surgeries, the goal of our missions is also to train local teams and transfer knowledge in pediatric cardiology, so that medical expertise develops sustainably in the host country.

The humanitarian initiatives of Sainte-Justine at the Heart of the World are sponsored by the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

We have helped over 1,000 children with heart deficiencies lead a better, healthier life

Since our beginnings, Sainte-Justine at the Heart of the World has carried out four missions in Morocco (2006-2009), six missions in Egypt (2010-2013) and five missions in Ethiopia (2014 until today) with over 150 healthcare professionals. These missions helped treat more than 1,000 patients with heart deficiencies so far, and we are pleased that local medical teams are now autonomous enough to perform pediatric cardiology interventions by themselves.
